President's Letter

Well, a happy 4th of July to all. We now have a campaign going, and it looks good for us. We must, however, not take anything for granted. The poles have Obama up by an average of 12%. This is not a run away and any mistake could cause a reversal. The Republicans have already exposed one of their cards in their wonderful world of swift boat politics.

The high cost of gas, which has every one in a dither, is their first card. The Republicans now blame the Democratic Liberals for putting the environment first and the financial needs of the people second. "We must drill in the Artic and off shore along our coasts" they are shouting. Charlie Christ our Governor, whom I have always said seemed like such a friend only because he was governing in the shadow of a Bush has shown a little of his colors, suddenly coming out for off shore drilling. "This will give us independence from the OPEC economic clamp". Who, we must ask is really behind this rise in prices? Is it Opec or is it the oil speculators, those wonderful country club buddies of our President? Think back to when Carter was president. Then the State Department, which was dominated by Republican appointees at that time, had Carter and the whole country convinced that the Middle East was on the verge of running out of oil. There were lines that we waited on for hours and alternate days on which to fill up our tanks. Low and behold prices went up and oil reappeared. Now we have an election. Whether you supported Obama or not they fact is he is the better candidate. He is by far the brighter one and depending on whom he picks for his running mate his lack of experience, another Republican firing point will be overcome. He is the candidate who will move forward toward research for alternative fuel sources. The polls show that the country trusts Obama over McCain on the economy by over 17%.

What most people don't know is that we now have oil leases that are not being used. We also have oil being pumped out of Alaska, which we export to Japan and the Orient. We have never really heard, other than the fact that what we use is not replenish able, that an oil shortage in causing the price of gas to go up. The problem if you listened carefully, is the inability to refine the oil as well and the ability of the oil speculators to control the market. Yes folks we do not have enough refineries and what we have is out dated and Congress must investigate the speculators and the oil companies.

So fellow Democrats, be prepared for one of the dirtiest presidential races that you've ever seen. The Republicans have to work extra hard this time because they are at a distinct disadvantage in that this country has already experienced what can happen if you elect a president who is not intellectually up to snuff. What they are going to try to cover up is the fact that he graduated sixth from the bottom of his class at Annapolis. They will do this by smearing Obama and the democrats anyway and everyway they can. We must pressure the press to be astute and ask the right questions. We must demand that they present the facts accurately. During this administration our press almost collapsed. A free press as at the center of a free society and we the populace must make sure that the press remains free.

Oh well, enough. Our speakers this month will be State Representative Ari Porth and Boris Bastidas representing Barack Obama. So come bring a friend and I'll bring the refreshments.
