Subject: Are You Going to Help Elect the First Woman President This Country Has Ever Had?
Greetings and best wishes for a great weekend!  IT HAS CERTAINLY BEEN AN AMAZING WEEK!

Yesterday’s Hillary House Party at Ralph and Mary Rickel’s home was wonderful.  Special Guest Craig Smith, former White House Political Director, and someone who has known Bill and Hillary Clinton for 40 years gave an outstanding talk.  He made it clear that, once again, Florida will be ground zero in the 2016 Presidential Election.  That the Republican candidate, whoever that turns out to be, cannot win unless he wins Florida.  And, as all of us who live in Palm Beach, Miami-Dade, and Broward counties know, we have the power right here in South Florida to make sure that that person does not win this state!  So if you are ready for Hillary and would like to get involved in her campaign right now, please let me know.  There are many ways for you to help.

It’s been an inspiring few days.  Yesterday (Thursday), the United States Supreme Court upheld Obamacare and made it clear that it is and will continue to be the law of the land, providing affordable health insurance coverage to millions of Americans.  Also yesterday, the Court handed down a decision strongly endorsing the 1968 Fair Housing Act, making it clear that racial discrimination in housing can be proven by statistics showing the disparate impact a particular practice has on minorities, as well as by proving overt racial bias.

And then today (Friday), the Supreme Court handed down a landmark decision that just a few years ago (like the idea of an African-American being elected President) would have seemed unbelievable.  The Court held that the constitutional guarantees of due process and equal protection mean that states may not ban same-sex marriage.  Here’s what Justice Kennedy said in his majority opinion:  “No union is more profound than marriage, for it embodies the highest ideals of love, fidelity, devotion, sacrifice, and family. In forming a marital union, two people become something greater than once they were. As some of the petitioners in these cases demonstrate, marriage embodies a love that may endure even past death. It would misunderstand these men and women to say they disrespect the idea of marriage. Their plea is that they do respect it, respect it so deeply that they seek to find its fulfillment for themselves. Their hope is not to be condemned to live in loneliness, excluded from one of civilization’s oldest institutions. They ask for equal dignity in the eyes of the law. The Constitution grants them that right.

Then, also on Friday, our President, Barack Obama gave one of the best speeches he has ever given, in eulogizing the Reverend Clementa Pinckney.  If you have not yet seen this talk, either live or on Rachel Maddow, you owe it to yourself to watch and listen.  It’s a bit over 30 minutes long, but you should take the time; it’s amazing!  Here’s a link to watch:

Now, if you are at all moved to help out with voter registration, we will be at the West Regional Library (at Broward & Pine Island) on Wednesday and Thursday, July 8th & 9th, from 10:30 AM to 2:30 PM.  Please let me know if you can volunteer either from 10:30 AM to 12:30 PM or from 12:30 PM to 2:30 PM.  If you’d like to help out with voter registration at the West Regional Library on weekends, contact John Ziegler at 954-232-3918 orjohnjoeziegler@aol.com

And if you’d like to register students at Broward College, either in Davie or Coconut Creek, please let me know.  The Fall Semester starts on August 24th with a whole new crop of students, and we will need volunteers for several days at that time.  So please put it on your calendar and let me know that we can count on you to help.

As always, thanks for all you do!

  1. Thank you Alan for composing a most moving and upbeat report about Hillary.
Look on the bright side; Bill will again be back in the White House!
    Joel

  2. I highly suggest that all readers of BlueBroward.org (Thank you David Carr.) and Democrats throughout Florida become involved with voter registration and collecting signatures for the updated November 2016 Medical Marijuana Amendment. One must remember that POTUS Obama won re-election in Florida in 2012 by less than 1%. (50.01% to 49.13%) No one has ever called our President “Landslide Barack!”

  3. Definitely we will, my friend and I are already mobilizing their friends and their friends’ friends to do it. We will help with voter registration and try to explain the best we can about the other candidate (Mr. Sanders) just in case someone mentions his name. Thanks Alan, we will be at W Regional Library this week.

  4. Alan – I am reading above.

You know what the problem is insofar as Democrats like you registering voters?

You mislead and talk-down to anyone not white.

    Look at the post above.

I see SOCIAL ISSUES. I see Affordable Healthcare, “medical dope” – whatever that means. And your headline – “first WOMAN in the White House.”

Let me tell you what you already know intellectually – because I have met you:

Democrats in South Florida tout these “social” issues to get non-white persons fired up.

That is because it’s easier to manipulate young college kids and less-sophisticated potential voters on “social issues.”

Broward County Democrats have an economic / socio-economic platform perhaps in reality?

Or is Hillary going to just magically produce a higher GDP, tariff Chinese imports and give free healthcare to all the Baby Boomers and anyone else in need?

My point is – I go to Democrat meetings – I hear the dumbest social issues ever.

The voters should be encouraged to vote for the most qualified incumbent who can interact with Congress and garner legislation for the greater good of the nation –

Has nothing – NOTHING NOTHING to do with whether that president is a black man, white man, woman, et cetera.

Change – just to put someone in office for novelty – has not been proven by any empirical evidence – that it makes for efficient public policy.

Corey Weiner of Coral Springs, Broward County.

P.S. Anyone want to debate / dispute anything I have written – pack a lunch, bring a friend or an astute university professor. You will need it. 😉

P.P.S. – Bernie Sanders talks about ECONOMIC policy. Both Macro – and domestic.

If the guy above who left the comment – had a bigger brain – he would go on to the web and view Senator Sanders yelling at Alan Greenspan for lack of control during the economic collapse in 2007-8 in a Senate hearing.

Social issues are so cute – try talking to the voters about ECONOMIC legislation locally that will help their economic upward mobility.

When I see that – I will silence myself.

    😉

P.P.S. – And – for the record – if one polled the socio-economic status of the students you seek to register at BC, one would find a pattern. Not their skin tone or surnames either.

    I mean their economic status.

And a “woman in the White House, or an educated black man who ran a university, or a blind man, or a white man, or gay man, etc is not going to help those kids better themselves earning power / economically.

Tell them what public policy the local government will draft to improve their lives – and spare them the rhetoric about marijuana and civil rights.

  5. I have no idea what the above comment (Number 4) is all about. But it seems the need for Florida’s Medical Marijuana amendment needs to be passed immediately!

  6. Joel Greenwald – You skimmed my comments and have no idea what they are about / why they are relevant to the article above on electing Hillary Clinton?

Are you sarcastically suggesting I start smoking drugs?

Let me tell you something Mr. Greenwald, why don’t you go back and re-read it slower.

And if you still require an explanation – I can come on down to Democratic Party headquarters and lecture you and the state DEC on why going down to community college and INS offices to register voters – and electing “a woman” instead of “electing a capable chief executive” is disadvantageous.

  7. Additionally, if you, the president of your Wynmoor club or anyone else educated on the topic of political economics – national or local to Broward – want to discuss this offline so that I avoid offending David Carr on his site, pack a lunch and bring your favorite professor.

I wrote the same message on Senator Rubio’s Facebook wall asking if his staffers would like to discuss exactly how they legislate economic policy for the people of Florida. I accused him of subscribing to Reagan-Era supply-side economics.

Then I accused Jeb Bush’s campaign of racial profiling to lure Latin American voters like he did in Florida.

Both of them removed my Facebook comments from their pages.

    Cannot imagine why.

    😉

    Corey
