Can You Help Out During the Next Few Days?

    Happy Memorial Day, everybody!

The Meeting of the Broward Young Black Progressives went very well.  My Co-Coordinator, Rod Kemp, and I talked about the Rights Restoration Amendment and solicited their help in this Campaign.  Those in attendance were very enthusiastic and took lots of petitions to get people to sign.

Yesterday, Rod and I met with Katy Syed from the League of Women Voters and Mark Eckert from the ACLU.  Katy and Rod are going to try to establish teams to collect rights restoration petitions during the week at the Broward County Courthouse in downtown Fort Lauderdale.  If you live close to downtown and would like to help with petition collection at the Main Courthouse, just let me know.

We will be back at the West Regional Courthouse (Broward & Pine Island) on Wednesday, May 31st from 10 AM to 2 PM to register voters and collect rights restoration petitions.  Please let me or Ron McCoy ( or 954-790-3106) know if you will be coming out to help.

On Saturday, June 3rd, there are two events that I will attend  The first, the Orange Wear Celebration, is in Esplanade Park, 401 SW 2nd Street, in downtown Fort Lauderdale, sponsored by Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense and other community partners, starts at 1 PM and is an event to raise gun violence awareness.  The second, starting at 5 PM at the Huizenga Plaza Park Bandshell, 1 E. Las Olas Blvd., is the March for Truth, sponsored by the ACLU, the Women’s March Broward Chapter, and other partners, to protect our democracy, fight for real criminal justice reform, and stand in solidarity with communities being targeted by Jeff Sessions and Donald Trump.   I will attend both events and collect as many rights restoration petitions as possible.  Please let me know if you will be able to join me at those events on that day.

Also on Saturday, June 3rd, John Ziegler’s team will be back at the West Regional Library in Plantation from 10 AM to 6 PM to register voters and collect rights restoration petitions.  If you’d like to help at the Library in one of the 2-hour shifts, please contact John at 954-232-3918 or

We will also be back at the West Regional Courthouse on Monday and Wednesday, June 5th and 7th, from 10 AM to 2 PM.  Yes, it will be hot, but we will have our shady canopy and don’t forget to bring water and a hat.  Please let me know if you will be able to join us on those days.

Remember:  Volunteers can collect petitions from any registered voter in Florida, and all you have to do is return the completed petitions to me.  I am now a coordinator for the Rights Restoration Coalition in Broward County.  That means I have blank petition forms that you can use and t-shirts that you can wear.  You can collect petitions from Democrats and Republicans.  My pitch goes something like this:  “Have you signed the Rights Restoration Petition yet?  It would restore the right to vote to Floridians once they get out of prison.”
