Are You Ready to Come Out and Help?

    Good afternoon, everybody!

    Even with the holiday-shortened week, July has been excellent for voter registration and petition collection.  Last Saturday, Lonnie Supnick and his team at the Southwest Regional Library in Pembroke Pines registered 5 voters and collected 73 rights restoration petitions!  Anne Toft (9), Mary Jane Stone (12), and Randy Fleischer (13) collected petitions on their own, for a total of 34 more.  At the West Regional Library on Wednesday, Paulo Ayrolla, Ron McCoy, and Lonnie Supnick registered another voter and collected 44 more petitions.  On Thursday, Ron and Paulo collected 43 more.  And today, at the Swearing-In Ceremony for new citizens at the Southwest Regional Library in Pembroke Pines, with the help of Lonnie Supnick, Paulo Ayrolla, Bradette Jepsen, and Ana Segura, we registered 12 brand new citizens and collected 23 more rights restoration petitions.  If my math is right, that makes 217 petitions right here in West Broward since the beginning of the month!

    The numbers are great, but we need your help during the next few weeks.  Here’s what you can do:

    Tomorrow, Saturday, July 8th, John Ziegler’s team will be back at the West Regional Library in Plantation from 10 AM to 6 PM to register voters and collect rights restoration petitions.  If you’d like to help at the Library in one of the 2-hour shifts, please contact John at 954-232-3918 or johnjoeziegler@aol.com.

    And for the next three weeks, teams will be at the West Regional Courthouse on Mondays and Wednesdays from 9 AM to 1 PM.  Ron McCoy will be handling Mondays;
please let Ron know (rmccoyohfl@gmail.com or 954-790-3106) if you will be coming out to help.  Paulo Ayrolla will be handling Wednesdays; please let Paulo know
(paulo_ayrolla@hotmail.com or 954-805-2815) if you can join him out there.  The canopy provides plenty of shade, which makes the summer heat more bearable, but Ron and Paulo cannot put the canopy up without the help of someone else, so please let them know that you will join them.

    If you would like to help collect petitions on Tuesdays from 11 AM to 1 PM at the West Regional Library or on Thursdays from 11 AM to 1 PM at the Broward County Central Courthouse (downtown), please contact Lenora Brinson at 469-652-4368 or lenora@myrecoverytamarac.com.

    The Rights Restoration Campaign “Convening” at the Rosen Center in Orlando will take place from July 20th to July 22nd.  The conference will address, encourage, and direct the rising enthusiasm to place the Rights Restoration Amendment on the 2018 Ballot.  Here is Desmond Meade’s letter about this event:

    Hi everyone! We are TWO WEEKS away from the 2017 Florida Rights Restoration Coalition State Convening in Orlando.  If you have not registered yet, NOW is the time to do it!!

    I could not be more excited about the people, the lineup, the programming and the change that is going to happen because of this Convening in Orlando. You do not want to miss this opportunity to stand up for Second Chances and help create a more inclusive Democracy in our state.

    Please, register TODAY by clicking on this link – Register Here

    Also, we have received a few questions that I would like to address.

    One, YES, bring your signed petitions with you!! We are excited about the volunteer-led grassroots movement that is occurring, and would love to celebrate any and all petitions that get dropped off at the Convening.

    Two, reserve your hotel by calling (800) 204-7234 and get the group rate under “The Florida Rights Restoration Coalition”

    Three, at the Convening, participants will experience interactive participation with the Ballot Initiative Expert Panel; hands-on messaging training that will enrich our Public Education Program; and relationship building and collaborative planning with other FRRC partners. Additionally, all Convening participants will leave with tangible resources to help them achieve their volunteer goals, including messaging, phone banking, canvassing and petition collection toolkits.

    Thanks again to everyone who is a part of the Second Chances movement.  We are only two weeks away from a Convening that has the potential to make lives better for millions of people in our state.  You do not want to miss this opportunity!! Register TODAY!

    Sincerely, Desmond Meade, Florida Rights Restoration Coalition
