From: Communications Committee of Broward Democratic Party
We hope that all of you are safe and dry. The hurricane is almost past us now and we pray that you did not suffer any damage to your property or your family. While we wait out the storm, we thought that you could use some good news and urge you to write letters to the attached Congressmen and Senators from the attached list. It will help with the boredom and take your mind off the hurricane.

WE DEMONSTRATED AGAINST RACISM AND HATRED
From Rick Hoye, 1st VP of Broward Democratic Party:
Yesterday, August 30th, 2017 marked a pivotal day in Broward politics and community advocacy. The City of Hollywood Commission voted 5-1 to rename the Hood, Lee, and Forrest streets in the neighborhood of Liberia. For more information of the events of yesterday, check out this recap from the MiamiHerald. The Broward Democratic Party is proud of everyone who stood tall and made their concerns known. Impassioned advocacy is what this County and Country will continuously need. For more than a decade, in this predominately African-American neighborhood, residents of Liberia have fought to change the street signs, and yesterday, their hard work finally paid off. We are all of one community, and yesterday that fact was made known loud and clear.
WE DEMONSTRATED FOR THE ENVIRONMENT
WE DEMONSTRATED AGAINST TRUMP ON TAX DAY
WE DEMONSTRATED FOR EQUAL RIGHTS
WE DEMONSTRATED FOR TRUTH (Russian interference in our election)
WE DEFEATED TRUMPCARE BY CALLING SENATORS AND REPRESENTATIVES You are responsible for this victory. It was your phone calls that lead to the defeat of trumpcare
WE CAUSED REPUBLICANS TO USE THE “NUCLEAR OPTION” TO GET THEIR SUPREME COURT NOMINEE. They changed the rules to approve a nominee from 51 votes to 60. This will come back to hurt them when we return to the majority in the Senate
WE DEMONSTRATED AND CALLED FOR A SPECIAL PROSECUTOR TO INVESTIGATE COLLUSION WITH THE RUSSIANS AND TRUMP’S ROLE IN IT.

THE BIG ISSUE – TAX REFORM – THIS NEEDS OUR ACTION. We defeated Trumpcare and we have to defeat the Republican budget. We will ask you to make phone calls again to show that the majority of Americans do not want tax cuts for the rich. We do not want to spend our money on a wall with Mexico.
Trump is eliminating tax write offs for mortgages, health, contributions, state and local taxes. This will cause property values to go down, banks to be in trouble, the housing construction industry will go into a depression and an increase in state and local taxes. For what?
The Republican budget:
- cuts Social Security for Americans with disabilities;
- cuts Medicaid, Medicare, and women’s health programs;
- cuts the EPA and other environmental and natural resource protection programs;
- cuts the education budget and training assistance for unemployed;
- cuts core infrastructure funding for our nation’s highways;
- cuts nutrition initiatives intended primarily for the disabled, elderly, and children;
- cuts affordable housing programs, and;
- gives approximately 99% of the tax benefits of these cuts to the top 1% wealthiest Americans.
