Good evening, everybody!
The Rights Restoration Campaign is now within sight of the finish line. The Campaign has set December 15th as the date by which they are hoping to have collected on million rights restoration petitions. We need your help now more than ever!
It was an amazing weekend at the 51st Annual Art in the Park event in Plantation. On Saturday, we collected 186 rights restoration petitions. And then on Sunday, we collected another 128 petitions. That’s 314 in two days! John Ziegler did an amazing job of organizing over 30 volunteers to cover the shifts on both days. I’ve already recognized the Saturday helpers, so now let’s thank the Sunday volunteers, including Cindy Johnson, Steven Siegel, Cathy Bowers, Teresa Williams, Linda Gutierrez, Bev Kaufman, Maude King Bruce, Giorgina Liguori, Richard Grosso, Ellen Molrz, Dennis Henry, and Ellie Forte!
On Monday, we were back at the Hollywood Courthouse, where Tracy McNeil and I collected 3 voter registration forms and 55 petitions. On Monday night, I spoke at the Broward Young Democrats Meeting and asked for their help in getting to our goal of one million petitions. On Tuesday, Jackie Braun and her Hollywood volunteers registered 8 more voters and collected 43 petitions. And earlier today, at the Hollywood Courthouse, Ronnie Heller, Janet Thompson, and John Countryman helped to register 3 voters and collect 61 more petitions!
Here’s how you can help during the next few days before Thanksgiving:
1. On Saturday and Sunday, November 18th and 19th, from 9 AM to 4 PM, there is a Holiday Craft Festival and Green Fair at the Bergeron Rodeo located at 4271 Davie Road in Davie. This event will have work by local artists and artisans. Entry and parking is free. I’m hoping we can get a good number of volunteers to join me there on Saturday at about 10 AM. Please let me know if you can help out.
2. Also on Saturday, November 18th, John Ziegler’s team will be back at the West Regional Library in Plantation from 10 AM to PM to register voters. He still needs volunteers for 2-hour shifts. If you’d like to help at the Library, please contact John at 954-232-3918 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
3. On Sunday, November 19th, from 12 Noon to 6 PM, there is a Craft and Talent Show at the Weston Town Center, 1675 Market Street in Weston. If you can join me there on Sunday for even a couple of hours, please let me know.
4. On Monday and Wednesday, November 20th and 22nd, we will be back at the South Regional Courthouse 3550 Hollywood Blvd., just west of I-95, in Hollywood. We have all the forms needed, a table and chairs, and that overhang to protect us from the sun. We start at 10 AM and work until 2 PM. If you’d like to just fill a 2-hour shift, just let me know the times. The weather has been wonderful! Please let me know when you can join us.
Please come out to help; we have only a few weeks left to collect enough petitions to get on the 2018 Ballot!
