Can you remember what happened to federal judicial nominees during the Obama Administration? First, Republicans blocked many of the people President Obama nominated to the federal judiciary. Then, when Obama nominated Merrick Garland to be a justice on the Supreme Court, they refused to act at all. When Trump became President and nominated Gorsuch for that same Supreme Court seat, Republicans changed the rules to approve that nomination. Republican control of the Senate with Donald Trump as President has also resulted in lifetime appointments to the federal bench of a large number of extremely conservative and in many cases unqualified individuals. The large number of federal judges being approved by the Republican-controlled Senate has the potential of reshaping our laws for a generation, and not for the better!
As the Indivisible Team points out, if Democrats can take back the Senate, these lifetime appointments can be stopped. Of the Senate races to be decided on November 6th, 26 are currently held by Democrats. Several of the races with Democratic incumbents are in states won by Trump, including Florida. I have decided to make donations to the campaigns of Bill Nelson and other Democratic Senators in tough races. If you are able to make political contributions, please consider donating to the following campaigns:

I was joined at the Courthouse this week by Beth Feldman, Marcia Kirshner, Marsha Eisenberg, Lauren Tate, and Beth Mumby. We registered another 16 voters, collected 21 vote-by-mail requests, and 101 gun safety petitions! And if you’d like to help with voter registration, here’s how:
John Ziegler’s team will be back at the West Regional Library in Plantation on Saturday, May 12th. If you’d like to help with voter registration at the Library on Saturday, please contact John at 954-232-3918 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
I will be back at the West Regional Courthouse (Pine Island & Broward) on Monday and Wednesday, May 14th and 16th, from 10 AM to 2 PM to register voters and sign people up to vote by mail. As usual, we will have our large canopy to protect us from the sun and a table and chairs. Don’t worry if you have never done voter registration before. It is very easy and rewarding! Please let me know when you can join me.
