Good evening, everybody!
Today was one of the worst days I have ever had in many years of voter registration. Not because we weren’t able to register many voters. We actually collected 8 voter registration forms. It was because of the 8, only 3 registered as Democrats and 5 registered as Republicans! I have never before had a day with numbers like that. It’s usually the other way, with most people registering as Democrats. One of the new voters had completed serving all the terms of his felony sentence, and even he registered as a Republican! I’m telling myself that this was just a fluke and that it won’t happen again. In any event, we can’t take anything for granted and have to re-double our efforts to make sure that Florida turns blue in 2020.
I do want to thank Michael Goldfarb, Beth Feldman, Laurie Stark. and Norman Levy for coming out to help collect the 8 voter registration forms, 4 vote-by-mail requests, and 44 medicaid expansion petitions!
If you have not yet volunteered, especially all Plantation residents who have completed the voter registration training, I definitely need your help on Mondays and Wednesdays from 10 AM to 2 PM at the West Regional Courthouse. We have a canopy to protect us from the sun and the rain, but I cannot set it up at 10 or take it down at 2 by myself. So if you can join me for either the 10 to 12 Noon shift or the 12 noon to 2 shift, it will make it possible to continue registering voters.
I will be at the West Regional Courthouse on Wednesday, August 14th and then again on Monday and Wednesday, August 19th and 21st. Please let me know when I can count on your help. We will also have our table and chairs (and a little fan!) to make our outdoor office as comfortable as possible. Please let me know when you can join me, and be sure to bring a cap and a bottle of water. I will have all the forms we will need.
It’s time for you to get involved!
